This interactive card activity helps students move beyond vague, generic answers and develop the specific, applied explanations needed for Research Methods.
Using a range of short research scenarios, students work through three key questions:
SPOT IT – Identify a specific extraneous variable.
SO WHAT? – Explain exactly how it could influence the DV.
CONTROL IT – Devise a practical way the researcher could control it.
Challenge cards add an extra layer of peer questioning, encouraging students to call out answers that are “Too vague!”, ask “So what?”, or challenge another team to “Control it!”.
